Meet the Tennis Staff
Rob Light - Head Tennis Professional
Rob joined the Fredericksburg Country Club staff in 2003. Rob came to Fredericksburg after serving two seasons as assistant men’s and women’s tennis coach at the University of North Carolina at Asheville. While at UNC-A, Rob was influential in guiding the Bulldogs to their first ever Division 1 National Ranking.
Before working in Asheville, Rob served as the Assistant Tennis Professional at the Roanoke Country Club. Rob taught for 5 years in Roanoke where several of his junior players have gone on to play tennis at the collegiate level.
Rob has enjoyed an extensive playing career. He was a four year letterman at Hampden-Sydney College, and served as a captain for three years. He finished his junior and senior years as second team all-conference and was named the team’s most outstanding player.
Rob holds the highest level of professional certification through the United States Professional Tennis Registry. Rob is also a Master Racket Technician which is the highest honor given to any certified racket stringer in the United States Racket Stringers Association.
Outside the club, Rob has twice been selected to coach the Mid-Atlantic junior teams. In 2004, Rob coached the Boy's and Girl's Mid-Atlantic Zonals team in North Carolina, and in 2007 Rob was selected to coach the Girl's 18 and under Mid-Atlantic Nationals team in California.
Lawrence Hunter - Assistant Tennis Professional
Lawrence has been a fixture here at FCC now for six years. Coming in as our stringer and front desk staff, Lawrence has now work his way up to lead instructor.
A graduate of Chancellor High School, Lawrence was a standout playing the number #1 position in both singles and doubles. Lawrence then went on to play one season of Division III varsity tennis at Virginia Wesleyan College, before transfering to Mary Washington University.
Lawrence is a member of the United States Professional Tennis Registry and has completed his junior tennis certification.
Lawrence enjoys working with all levels and is our lead cardio tennis instructor.
